BOSS & CO.
A FINE AND RARE RISING THIRD BITE VARIANT 12-BORE SINGLE-TRIGGER OVER AND UNDER SIDELOCK EJECTOR LIVE PIGEON GUN, serial no. 7445,
30in. nitro barrels with side-ribs and broad raised matt top-rib, tubes engraved 'BOSS & CO. 13, DOVER STREET, PICCADILLY, LONDON. ENGLAND.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 3/4 choke in both, hold-open toplever, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, incorporating Boss patent barrel locking action, patent no. 3307 of 10th February 1909, Boss patent improved ejector mechanism, patent no. 3308 of 10th February 1909, F. Beesley patent vertical top locking bolt, patent no. 22512 of January 9th 1913, removable striker discs, non-selective single trigger, rolled-edge triggerguard, best fine bouquet and scroll engraving, the fore-end iron decorated en-suite, retaining much original colour-hardening with lacquered finish, 14 3/8in. well-figured replacement semi-pistolgrip stock (by the makers), left underhorn with crack, weight 7lb. 11oz., in a brass-cornered oak-lined leather case

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was ordered on the 5th May 1927 for Von Lengerke & Detmold in New York as a double trigger gun. They confirm that the gun was subsequently re-stocked by them in the late 1930's. The conversion to a bob-weight single trigger was not executed by the makers, but they have examined the gun and stated that the conversion is of "outstanding workmanship" and certainly equal to Boss standards.

The current vendor has had the gun recently serviced by Boss & Co, involving a strip and clean, regulation of the single trigger (with replaced hammer and sear parts) and the barrels stripped, relayed and reblacked.

Other Notes: The Beesley patent vertical top locking bolts are an exceptionally rare addition to Boss over and under guns. According to research carried out by Donald Dallas, they were used on just a limited number of Live Pigeon guns and double rifles.
